Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan on 15 May 2014 cancelled the
visit to Chibok. The visit was cancelled due to security reasons.
Chibok in the north-east of Nigeria is the town from where more than 250 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram militants. The abduction of the Nigerian schoolgirls had come in for international criticism.
US drones and surveillance aircraft have been deployed to assist in the search for the schoolgirls, while the UK has sent a military team to the capital, Abuja, to work alongside US, French and Israeli experts.
The lower house of Nigeria's parliament, the House of Representatives, approved an extension of the state of emergency in the north-east states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa.
Besides, a security summit will be held in Paris, France on 17 May 2014 to discuss the Boko Haram threat to regional stability.
The summit will be attended by the leaders of Nigeria's neighbours - Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad. The summit will also include representatives from the UK, US and EU.
